Skrillex
“Rock N’ Roll (Will Take You to the Mountain)”
If this song had been released as a single by Daft Punk, it would’ve ended up at the top of most every critic poll in existence. You know it’s true. So just give in, because this is awesome. The Skrillex song I toyed with putting on my year-end lists is his remix of “Cinema” —but yeah I don’t get the hate (well, I get it, but I feel like it separates the “tasteful” old folks from the kids who just wanna have fun, you know? That said, I didn’t “get” the packed Pretty Lights show I went to in Des Moines this year, either! But I found it fascinating).
I think it is an unequivocally Good Thing that the Youth Of America are going mad for huge boshing rave music.
As huge boshing rave music goes this is good, too, very enjoyable, anyone who hates it is silly. But I’m old and British and hardly likely to think this is top-ten-of-anything special outside the social context.*
(That’s not to say I think things were better back in the day, etc etc. If you played a bunch of 1991 rave music to a Skrillex fan they’d roll their eyes: too little amplification, too little bass, the wrong structure, corny in different (i.e. wrong) ways.)
*Actually no, this is obviously better than proper srs moody dystopian dubstep of the sort I tried to ignore for the last half-dozen years.
Agreed re: “Cinema,” & this is a cool song too
